    Hi all

I have a serious problem with my computer. Up until about 3 hours ago it was fine, then I did something incredibly stooopid and tried to launch a key-gen from a warez site. As soon as double clicked the .exe i knew i was in trouble, anyway, to cut a long story short, I now get the error message whenever i try to access the internet OR a folder in My Computer:

" Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I therefore cannot access the net or my hard disk which also means I cant download any virus removal software. All i have is AGV which was updated today. I ran it immediately after the error messages started and it picked up the following 2 files located in D/windows and described by AVG as Zlob and Zlob.SE:

    "zlob/olgdqaft"

    "zlob/operfldg"

AVG then deleted these trojans and I thought i was home free, but nope - im still getting the error messages and cant access the net or my harddisk.

I have run AVG again and this time no sign of the Zlob but the error messages remain.

Does anyone have any idea where to start? or is my computer doomed

    Hi Powderkeg,
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You may still be able to get around the infection by going to an earlier restore point (one about a week ago). Try this first to see if you can get your internet connection back and if it works, go immediately into the READ & RUN ME FIRST and run the scans in there.

To go back to an earlier restore point, click on go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
check the box to Restore my computer to an earlier time and click on Next. You'll see a calendar with highlighted dates. Choose one of the dates (about a week ago) and allow your system to return to that date. See if this helps.

If none of the above works, go to another computer, come back to the Majorgeeks website and go to READ & RUN ME FIRST at the beginning of this Malware Forum. Then download the installation programs for the various scans in the instructions in the READ & RUN ME onto an external medium like a flash drive or cd (be sure to get the ones on the page that is specific to your operating system as well!). Then transfer these to your computer keeping in mind that you need the MGTools.exe to be directly under the drive where your operating system is located (usually C) and you need Combofix to be on your dektop. There is a special removal fool for zlob, which you can also run. You may want to start with this one and see if it finds anything which AVG did not find. You can find that here: Removing Zlob aka SmitFraud, SpySheriff, Infections

Let me know how you get on with this?
