Thanks for providing the details on how to remove the Google/Firefox Redirect Fix! After following your instructions, I was able to remove the Malware from my computer.

It's been years since we have had any type of malware/virus on our computer and we thought for certain we had very good security in place. Now, after finding we had this annoying Malware, I'm concerned as to HOW or WHY?

We have the FULL paid version of Avast Internet Security, which is updated constantly and we use the Auto update and also check for Program updates every month of so.

We check / install Windows updates weekly and also run full scans once or twice a month to make sure there are not nay we missed.

We also have CCleaner and run that weekly and also update it, as needed.

Despite using all these programs -- we still were infected and that is what I HOPED to avoid. What are we missing or what do you recommend we add as additional protection? The computer in question runs Windows Vista and and have a second Netbook with the same programs, running Windows 7. That computer was NOT infection and "hopefully" will not be.

Note: I have read the How to Protect Your computer thread, but with SO many options listed, I'm not sure which would be best with WHAT we currently run.

What OTHER program (paid or free) would YOU add? Do we need another Firewall? When the subscription runs out at the end of the year, should we consider other security programs? If so, which is best for us.

I first found this site about five years and Chaslang helped me remove a nasty Malware from my son's computer at that time. Thankfully, we always been extra cautious since that time and up until not have not had any issues? I totally value the wonderful service you provide to so many of us who are not expert users. It's a blessing to have a place like MajorGeeks to come to for help! THANK YOU!! :)

I suggest that you download and install both SAS and MBAM and run them as backup scanners. You can also download Iobit Malware Fighter ..... then go to the software forum and see the thread where Tim is giving away the pro version keys so you can upgrade to the pro version. ;)
