When I decreased the file size to post, it screwed up the clarity. I'll crop and post a clear(ish) pic (it still looks crappy from photobucket).

lol...thanks satrow. I'd have no clue what that is.

Sounds like 3 possible Flycatchers sited in this meadow are Willow, Arcadian and Least.

I'd guess that Arcadian would be vagrant/migrant in your area, Willow and Least look to have a greater breeding range in the NW. I have colour vision deficiency and very limited experience with this species group, I'd want to see and hear it before even thinking about giving a tentative ID :)

Some history shots for me. I put ac's on this school in 1999. And now I'm back with the same company replacing with new again. I won't be there for the next I'm sure!

I just found this mobile phone lens system and thought that some MGs may be interested in improving the image quality of their mobile phones. Please note I have no connection with the product I just saw the link on a news feed.
The system comes with a macro lens, a wide angle lens and a fisheye lens.
At checkout they were on special and only AU$39
    https://www.luxhd450.com/int/au/ss1/index.php?AFID=1985&SID=DA2
This was the checkout page I saw the pricing
    https://www.luxhd450.com/int/au/ss1/order.php?AFID=1985&SID=DA2

I don't know how good they are but for only AU$39 IMHO it is not a really big risk ;)

    Enjoy

Thanks satrow my bad.... BTW I just found an empty Jim Beam bottle so a new lens for me lol :)
I didn't do any due diligence as I will never use it (I am legally blind).
I have a fully automatic DSLR that for me I just point and shoot or mostly have it sitting on a tripod on my desk connected to my computer so I can read documents, books or magazines on my 42" PC screen.

wow, lots and lots of very nice pictures. thanks!
i've never looked at this thread before since it's about photography and taking pictures, and i have never been able to use a camera due to circumstances surrounding my birth. it's a long story, but my fine motor coordination took a hit, and holding a camera still, with ever so slightly twitchy and jittery hands, just doesn't work very well. anyway, arizona has been mentioned a couple of times, and both my mom and dad were from the same small mining town of bisbee arizona. http://www.bisbeeaz.gov/
i have not been back there in a very long time, but it is very beautiful country.
thanks again for all the pictures.

    Beautiful country, harmless.
If you have an interest in photography, don't let it stop you. Even that could be fixed by using a cable release/remote shutter release and a tripod. <= Besides a telescoping leg tripod to a 5' height, I also have a flexible leg tabletop model that's only 4.5" tall. :)

thanks for the info. i have enough brothers and sisters who like taking pictures that i've never had to figure out work arounds. and they have always been gracious to do things like that for me. my biggest challenge was learning handwriting in grade school. lol
anyway, to keep on topic, i don't know what type of bird it is, but it visited our bird bath earlier this year.

If your garden is anything to go by (it looks like you're in an arid, maybe semi-desert region), a Gilded Flicker would be the most likely.

thanks everyone, the bird bath is located deep in suburbia in sacramento, ca, usa. my mom loves plants that remind her of arizona. we bought a trail cam to take pictures of the bird bath. actually. it's set to take 10 second videos, and that is just a screen shot about 6 seconds into it. trail cams are pretty cool. first it was the bird bath, then a bird feeder ( that skinny black pole ) then a trail camera. no sasquatch pics yet. our big accomplishment over the year and half of this setup ... was to attract all of the feral cats in our area. my mom is averse to any kind of trap and release of the cats, and due to several recent bird kills in our backyard, she decided to take down the feeder and bath so that the cats will go elsewhere. we did try the ultrasonic cat deterrents, which helped, but we would have needed close to 15 of them to cover our entire backyard. oh well...

Okay, in and around Sacramento the Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted) would be the most likely.

    Vanishing point ;) ?

I like it, several other possibilities spring to mind; later, higher (get on the bench?), further back/wider angle lens. Certainly worth another visit, lots of angles there to be used :D

I wish that this afternoon that I had taken my 18-55mm zoom, rather than the 55-200mm. I would have come home with another double handful of images. This photo may get entered in a friendly contest...

    Great ideas, Andy!

  46. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Yes, the short zoom feels a better fit there. If the location is relatively local, try an early morning 'golden hour' shoot (check the weather forecast first!).

Maybe some offset shots, left bridge taking up the left side of the frame, relatively straight, right side swooping in to almost meet it.

Maybe some zoomed exposures to try to add some movement, perhaps a light on the tree to pick out a foreground focus - or take along some human or pet interest to add in there?

Lucky to be able to get 'into' a structure like that, very interesting subject, lots of potential. Well spotted

:D It is a nice spot - has a amphitheater with arched lighted seating built into a bank, a lighted walking path along the riverfront with benches/gazebo/a child's play area with those springy rocking horses. All-in-all, a great place for a variety of photographic genres.
