Okay, this problem has popped up very recently for me. I open my hotmail.com bookmark, and I'm immediately redirected to a different site, directNIC. It's a domain name service that lists all different categories below it, and has a little reddish/bluish icon. Even when I typed in "www.hotmail.com" or clicked an external link to it, the same thing happened.

Now, this was just happening with my hotmail link, but now it's started with Gmail, too. I simply can't get to the normal site because I'm automatically redirected to the damn directNIC site.

So what's going on with my computer, and how do I fix it?

    Thanks in advance!

Try the below first (I assume you have WinXP as you did not tell us.)

Click Start, Run and enter ipconfig /flushdns and click OK.

Note there is a space between ipconfig and the /flushdns.

    Any change?

Yes, I have Windows XP, but no, it didn't make any difference.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
