Ok we have good news! I have reloaded windows xp home editon! If interested in why click here see this thread
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=194258 . Anyhow, I have found all my other programs like Trend Micro, CCleaner etc.. Some I have manage to restore, some not so lucky! Actually I have only managed to restore CCleaner, I would like to find a simple way to transfer the good program files from my E drive into my C drive. I know your thinking just drag it into the program file! I did the problem is, they do not work! I checked the add/remove file and nothing is there. So for example when I click on itunes it can not find qtime because the wonderful world of microsoft can not find it in my computer! Even though Ray Charles could! Short of copying every file individually on a disc then reloading them, any short quick solutions out there? Thanks in advance for all the Genius's out there ( you know who you are lol)

Are you familiar with the Right Click "Send To" option?
Normally C drive is not an option listed. Put it there.
Go to My Computer, open your C drive so you can get to the Documents and Settings folder.
Open it. Then go to the top of the page and click on Tools, then Folder Options, then View. Check the box for Show Hidden.... Click Apply then OK.
Find your User names folder in Documents and Settings and open it.
Should see a folder called Send To.Right click and create a new shortcut.

Can't really do it that simply because programs are often installed using the registry and user's personal application data folder (and perhaps other folders as well).

What you may have to do is copy your user's folder over and then re-install whatever programs you need. Hopefully the program will detect and use your former settings (which may be included in the application data folder that you have copied over).

Yes, pain in the butt which is why a full system backup is suggested.

Nice to see that something I have been doing for quite a few years with no problems doesn't work.

My response wasn't towards your posting, infact my response (which I was typing up while you had posted) actually supports your idea (the copying of Doc/Settings).

Well thank you guys I sort of had that feeling no matter what I did I would still have to download all the programs and hope it noticed I already had them! I am in search of the registry back up ( I do have one)! I know I put it here some where lol! No I do have regcure or something to that effect which may still contain the back up! I hope! Once again thanks for your help. I am now in the process of moving 15 or so programs over while I search through the clutter of documents I also have saved over the years! Hair pulling has ended! (ran out of hair)
