The Strangest Problem Ever

I am pretty sure this is software-related but I am not positive. Here's the scoop. On my computer (not the one I'm on now) I am running XP Home and Internet Explorer. I am also running PestPatrol and Adaware Pro. My virus software is TrendMicro Internet Security.

I will log onto the Net - by way of dial-up and all is fine for a few minutes and then the pages will no longer load. I get an error message when I log off:

Iexplorer.exe Application Error The instrustion at "0x00f3472c" referenced memory at "0x013c3798". This memory couod not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate program.

So - I click OK and it shuts down.

Now I run Adaware and PestPatrol and always there is some spyware - Alexa or Cydoor - or something else, and some 'negligble entries' on Adaware. Only one or two - but I delete them and try to log back onto the Net - No Way. I have to reboot my computer first. Then I can log on - and in a couple more minutes the same thing will happen - and again - I will have approximately the same results with my spyware searches.

I feel like there must be something somewhere, hiding, on my computer - but what it is - I don't know. I can't find it anywhere. No viruses are showing up with TrendMicro - just the spyware.

This is the strangest problem, and I have repeated the above sequence probably a dozen times. I even ran the spyware check in Safe Mode - but with no luck.

BTW - I could not access my Control Panel in Safe Mode - I don't know if that is an important detail or not.

I am open to any suggestions - and I am not really a good geek - obviously, that's why I am here.
