This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Well, I am not quite sure what happened. I was sitting at my computer last night and a friend thought he was being funny and decided to hit my power button on my computer. When I restarted my computer there was no longer any sound. In the bottom right hand corner, the audio speaker thing for volume control is no longer there.

When attempting to open Volume Control Manually via the Start menu, I get the error...

"There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to..."

I need my audio pretty badly, and I don't know what to do. Please help.

My Audio Properties are...

Realtek High Definition

Device Type: Sound, Video, and game controllers
Manufacturer: Realtek

And I used the Driver...

"REALTEK High Definition Audio (Azalia ALC880, ALC882, ALC260, ALC861) Version (1.51)"

Things i've tried...
1) System Restore - Wasn't previously activated, so I could not do it.
2) Uninstalling and Reinstalling devices and device drivers.

 

Does the add hardware wizard in control panel list REALTEK mixer after you tell it to scan and answer yes it is already connected?

 

I go into my control panel, and I hit Add Hardware. The wizard begins.

Q: "Have you already connected this hardware to your computer?"
A: "Yes......."

Realtek High Definition Audio shows up in the list of installed hardware with a yellow circle and an " ! " inside that circle.

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

I've tried uninstalling it from my device manager, and doing the Add Hardware thing again....

"Found New Hardware.... Realtek High Definition Audio."

"A problem occured during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly."

Again, Realtek High Definition Audio shows up in the list at the end of the wizard with a yellow circle and an " ! " inside that circle.

 

Also, another thing I tried. I went into my device manager and uninstalled the device. Than I restarted my computer with the hopes that if I just sat back and let it do what it wanted to with it, maybe it would work. It said it installed the device but it would require a reboot to work properly. So, I rebooted, however, when I got back in I was at the same spot I was at prior. Another attempt, failed.

 

I've tried it all, where are my geeks?

 

I tried uninstalling ALL of my audio drivers. Next, I will try doing a repair using the Windows XP CD.

 

When into my add/remove programs, delteted all Realtek Audio files and uninstalled all drivers from my computer. Restart, went into Bios and disabled all On Board Audio in Peripheral Configuration. Logged back in, nothing was there. It did not notice the audio device and did not attempt to reinstall.

I restarted, enabled on board audio, logged in. Installed the latest Intel Driver for my on board audio, still experiencing same problem I started with. I am running out of ideas.

 

I take it no one knows how to help me...?

 

Hi. Please install and run either Everest free edition or Belarc Advisor and give us your system info. Also, why would you try to install an Intel driver if you have Realtek audio? Lastly, after you uninstall your audio device(s), I would suggest you run a registry cleaner (RegSeeker is a good one), then rebooting before trying to install new drivers.

 

I've run Everest, is this all you need?

I installed -
Audio: Intel® HD Audio Controller - Realtek Codec (44595KB)
Because my Realtek Sound is onboard audio on my Intel Motherboard.

Tried a Registry Cleaner Several times throughout many processes.

 

It appears you have been very thorough. The sound function on your mobo may have gone belly-up.

 

Thanks to those of you who tried to help. I have run out of ideas, a buddy of mine works at Best Buy so I just went and got a new sound card. Works great, sounds better. My On Board seems to have just finally bitten the dust.

Hi. So much for someone trying to be funny, huh? Anyway, I have a couple of questions for you: did you have to disable your onboard sound for the new sound card to work? Also, what kind of sound card did you get? Thanks & take care.

if that not help. Then you might have a broken CHIP.. return code from the failer system..
But i look into it.. keep your spirit up and search on the informations of the system.

if this aint working ... then you might have to contact you dealer...
and get a new motherboard .
"This motherboard iam running on is ASUS P4S800D-X with a ad1888
SOUNDCHIP on ... and that allso come with the fail code 10. but that is
after i switch from normal standart to Digital 5.1 . and then it fail..
i think it got a full feed back loop on the sound card and now its cant
return to standart and know its damages forever"

My problem my driver cant regonize the device, and cant load the driver.

Bit of a late reply here I had the same error yesterday in regards of your REALTEK did you put your mobo disk in and look for the REALTEK in Drivers/Audio/Processor...
