Does threatFire work as good as other virus protection? It says it is behavior based will it catch all viruses if kept updated?
    Thanks Bruce

Threatfire needs to be used in addition to your antivirus program. It is not a full blown antivirus program by itself. If it were then PC Tools would not also have PC Tools Antivirus. I really cannot say how good it is first hand since I have never tested it myself. What I will say is not to believe everything you read since many companies always say how good their software is in order to sell it. Also, I have had quite a few people coming here to get malware removed who had threatfire installed. I'm not sure whether Threatfire was installed before or after the malware arrived. But one thing I did notice which can be true for a number of tools, when they don't stop the malware from getting onto your PC in the first place, they can sure as heck prevent you from removing it so easily. Many times you will have to uninstall programs like this just to remove malware. But again, I have to repeat in all fairness that I have not tested/evaluated this program myself as I have no need for it and just don't have the free time to do so. I would expect it to be pretty good since PC Tools acquired this from Cyberhawk which had good reviews. You may want to perform your own evaluation.

Some dislikes that I have heard:
    • many report is that it slows their PC down too much to tolerate (which may be a reason why so few people actually use it). PC Tools advertizes that it is light on system resource which seems to contradict many user's opinions; however you will have to evaluate this for yourself since others have no problem with it. Perhaps it was older versions that had these issues and maybe they have been fixed now.
    • the free version has no on demand scanning (other than for rootkits) thus it will not help you located any malware that is already installed or that has managed to get by its defenses
    • some people say they have had difficulty getting it properly uninstalled
    • some people complain of false positives and I find this interesting since that is a complaint I always had with PC Tools Spyware Doctor. However PC Mag states they saw no false positives. See: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2191333,00.asp
