Times font changed/hijacked?

Hi im new to this site. Been searching for hours how to fix this problem. my search has come up empty. Did a system restore and problem remains. basically my 'times' font has been changed. it looks completely different then what it should look like. i dont know the exact name of the font its been changed to. what it looks like is a decayed/gothy/fragmented/condensed font. ya know, trendy that looks real cool but is extremely hard to read. when i check my format font in word its changed there too. i dont know how to fix this.. what do i do??
