What's the chances I can bring this laptop back to life after my friend updated his bios and it decided to turn its self off???

He used the correct Bios file from the Toshiba website, does all but the last bit where it updates the bios and then just turns its self off, any-chance it can be brought back to life without getting Toshiba to attempt to fix it??

I've had the battery out and the AC for a few hours, tried to turn it on get a few lights and the fan and the dvd drive can pop out but nothing else,

I'm guessing nothing can be done really ???

You could try and replace the bios chip if it's replaceable. Probably only fix

someone may be able to tell you how to reflash. Does the laptop have a floppy drive? I just found the specs (I'm not in Europe so sometimes my searches do not show all products). I see it doesn't have a floppy. If you flashed originally from a USB stick or a CD, get the old BIOS and try reflashing the same way.

    All may not be lost.
Apart from removing battery, taking out the cmos battery, if its an unpluggable type , and pressing the start button to ensure the laptop has all power drained from it. Then try different key combinations at startyp, with the bios floppy in there, to see if it will reload as it usually backs up the old bios.
I had heard of fixes, but I have been very lucky, myself.
Apparently the bios update 1.90 is the main one that has been causing problems.
I play with Toshiba's a lot, so I do see some things over time, although I never have time, unless I get that particular problem.
Getting bios chips done, is , I think for the expert,as I believe the sctual chip is soldered into motherboards, especially laptops- but I cannot guarantee that.
However, I looked through my collection, and then checked on-line, if any were still linkable, and found some useful answers. Free!!
Getting your Bios back- if anyone on majorgeeks has a link on majorgeeks, I say go for a majorgeek link, but, I can offer the following.
Key combinations, and reading all the necessary on the links is recommended, as I keep them, in case I get the problem, so I must make a floppy biosbak myself sometime, in case.

Special Key Combination to activate the boot block.- I have seen fn+f as the possibility for the A210- Sorry I have not had to use it myself, but I try to keep things handy , just for my own interest, and if I don't come across it- then , it takes me ages to find, as I ma not very well organised, as it is a hobby for me.

I have been on the blower to Toshiba this morning they have confirmed the boot bloc is accessible so I have rang a shop in my town and they will do it for £30 as I don't own a usb floppy drive I did try these routes with a usb flash drive but no go, turns out its one of the Toshiba's that cant be done via flash stick only floppy sod's law lol.:-D

So fingers crossed they can sort this problem out :)
