Toshiba Laptop HD install

I'm going to a friend house this Tuesday to help him with a hard drive. He installed a new HD and the PC comes up with a Msg that states something like setting are not setup. 1st how hard is it to install a HD in a Toshiba Laptop.
And is there something need to be setup.

 

As long as the PC 'sees' the new HD in the BIOS, and the boot order is set for CD drive first, and your Windows XP or 2000 CD is in the drive, you'll have no problems. If you're installing Win9x/ME, you'll need to boot into DOS first and run FDISK to create a partition on the new hard drive. Then boot into Windows setup from the CD to format and install Windows. Toshiba have their own special program for installing. This is called Tsetup. You can get the appropriate version for your laptop from the Toshiba site.

before I do the Tsetup.exe, here is the latest update.
He dropped off the laptop with the new HD installed. I get to the
point that it try to format the HD but it stays at 0%. Will Tsetup.exe
fix this problem or is it a bad HD?

 

Tsetup does it all for you. DOWNLOAD TO FLOPPY, AND PUT FLOPPY IN DRIVE - SET IN BIOS, FIRST BOOT FLOPPY. 2 CDROM, 3HD

 

You should get all instructions necessary, if you put the resulting floppy in the drive, but read the fdisk part to be certain - Studiot's the man otherwise on these.

Forgot.. no floppy drive.....

 

For laptops/pcs with no floppy you should find a bios option to boot from USB.
