I have a new 160 gig HD and i would like to replace my 20 gig, but keep all my data, how can I do this? I already have an 80 gig in my puter that I keep all my movies on, I have no room for all 3, so the 20 gig must go, the only problem is, it's the HD with windows on it. What is the easist way to transfer the data to my new HD? Thnx in advance everyone. :)

Since the 20 gig has to go, and it has the os on it, then you obviously are going to have to install your os on the new 160gb drive. When you are done with the install, all you will need to do is temporarily hook the 20gb drive up as a slave and drag and drop the files that you want to save into the new drive.

is there not a way to copy the entire drive to the 160 gig, without a new windows install?

    Which would be incorrect :)

    Ghost is an imaging/cloning program.

I guess if you see a correction as an argument...would you prefer I just leave you alone thinking you are correct?

Because...now you know the answer to the question as to what ghost covers.

    :)

Oh for pete's sake. He said, she said. You said you weren't sure, Adryn verified you were in fact incorrect in your statement and did so in an appropriate manner. What's the big deal? The purpose of this forum is to ask question, help, be helped and learn from each other so stop your nit picking and move on b/c the only thing YOU are doing is polluting the thread by carrying on in this manner. Get over it and move on. End of discussion.

    Clark:

I just purchased Ghost to image my old drive which is starting to fail, shifts spinning speeeds, and copy to a new larger one. I ran Ghost and 8% into the backup creation it failed with an error message. The message instructed me to run chkdsk /r 4 to 6 times, not kidding.

I did, ran it again with the same result... any ideas where to go from here?

Most hard drives come with a utility disc which has, among other things, a utility to clone your old hard drive information to the new hard drive.
