I have a new notebook and need to transfer all of the old inbox and sent item mails before I can ditch the old one. Can't see how to do it. Any suggestions?

On machine that has your emails
    1. Open Outlook Express
    2. Go to Tools > Options
    3. Click the Maintenance tab
    4. Click the "Store Folder..." button
    5. Copy the contents of the text box to the clipboard

    6. Close Outlook Express

    7. Bring up the "Run" dialog box and paste the contents of the clipboard to it
    8. Click OK

This will bring up the folder that has your emails
Copy the dbx files that you want to move to a removable media

On the machine that you want the files to be copied to.
    Repeat the above 8 steps
Copy your dbx files to this folder
    Delete the file folders.dbx
When Outlook Express opens it will recreate this file

Thanks Peter. Seems not to have happened though. Copied all of the dbx files and moved them to the outlook folder on the new machine. Not sure what you mean by "delete the file folders.dbx" in the last line. What files need to be deleted? Is this why it didn't work?

I had set up folders for most of my regular e mailers as well as a seperate inbox for another e mail address (within the general inbox folder) When I carried out the instructions above, only the other e mail folder has copied over. All of the other dbx folders i created on the old machine are there in the outlook folder on the new machine but nothing shows up in the actual inbox. Any ideas??

In your Store Folder, you will have a file named "folders.dbx". This is the file that needs to be deleted. Can you see file extensions?
    If not:
    Windows XP
    Click Start.
    Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    Select the View Tab.
Uncheck - Hide extensions for known file types
    Click OK.

I can see the folder but when I try to delete it I get an error message saying "cannot delete folders. it is being used by another person or program" close any programs that may be using the file and try again.

I closed outlook express and tried again but the same thing happened.

What else could be using the file? There are no other users on the machine.

I restarted the notebook and tried again. Worked a treat.
