    Hello everybody,

My PC is running Windows XP professional edition, with AVG free antivirus program.
Some days ago AVG free found as it says “Trojan-Downloader.Agent.Pto” virus. It was not able to heal the virus so moved from ….windows\system32 directory to virus vault some file “t0.dll”.
Afterwards any internet activity stopped working on the PC. Nothing works-nor internet browser (internet explorer), nor email program (Microsoft Outlook), nor Skype, nor AVG free can retrieve updates from internet etc.
I tried to Google for the problem, but found only very few posts in some Russian forums complaining regarding the same problem with the removed file (t0.dll), but no solution given there. The most interesting thing is that searching Grisoft web page and forums I couldn’t find any reference to the name Trojan-Downloader.Agent.Pto or malicious file t0.dll.
I would appreciate any help or comments or suggestions concerning possible solution of the problem.

Did you restore it from the virus vault? It is possible that it was a false report.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

It's also possible that the file was part of the LSP chain and thus simply deleting it broke the LSP chain and it needs to be fixed inorder to restore Internet access.

Thanks to everyone who helped. I've solved my problem.

I tried to restore the file, but AVG at once statrted to complain that there is a virus on PC. As there is no option in AVG free to make exeptions for files not to be monitored I had nothing to do but move the file to virus vault again.

Anyway-the solution was pretty simple to embody but not that simple to find. I tried to Google more and found some pretty small and and useful program - WinsockXPFix.
I've just run it once, PC restarted, and my problems are solved. That's it.:cool

Thank you once again and see you.

Good deal! It fixed what I was referring too. That is the broken LSP chain.
