We caught the Vundo Trojan on our Windows XP Home yesterday. It is on two files. Specifically: C:\Windows\System32\ssqrr.dll and C:\Windows\Sytem32\awtqr.dll as well as the registry keys for them. Since McAfee cannot remove it, I followed the instructions on that website to remove it, but that did not work.

I next came here last night and downloaded the highly recommended "Trojan Remover" program. I followed the instructions to completely remove the two infected files and registry keys from my system. I rebooted my system as instructed and..... McAfee says those two files infected by the Vundo trojan are still there!

I ran the "Trojan Cleaner" scanner again and it said I am "clean" of any trojans or other malware.

My question is: What happened? Did the "Trojan Cleaner" actually remove those two files and their registry keys? Why would my virus scanner still show those two infected files if they were supposedly removed?

I found the "VundoFix.exe" program elsewhere on this forum. I tried that and my Vundo Trojan seems to be gone now. :)
