I am using WMP10 and receiving the following error message. Gone through umpteen cd's. The burner will burn to about 98% completed then I receive the error message. Cannot figure out what is the problem. Is there a way of testing the burner? Please advice. Thank you in advance for your input.

    thank you,

C00D119F: Cannot burn files to CD
Windows Media Player cannot burn (copy) the selected files to the CD. To fix the problem, do one or more of the following, and then try again:

Verify that the CD burner (recorder) is connected properly.
Clean the disc and verify that it is not damaged.
Try a different brand of blank discs.
If another program is currently burning files to the CD, wait until the burning process is complete.
Quit other programs that might be using the CD burner.
    Restart Windows Media Player.
    Restart your computer.
Select a slower recording (write) speed for the CD burner.
Use the Windows Error-checking tool to check for file system errors and bad sectors on your hard disk. For more information about the Error-checking tool, see Windows Help.
To select a slower recording speed
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab.
In Devices, double-click the CD burner, and then click the Recording tab.
In the write-speed list, select a slower speed.
If the problem persists, the burner might be malfunctioning. For troubleshooting information, see the documentation that came with the burner.

Have you tried burning with a different burning utility? Have you tried a different brand of blank CD? Has WMP10 always done this or is it recent issue? Maybe try a firmware update or visit your drive maker's web site for info... it could be that WMP10 just isn't compatible with that particular make and model, especially if it's an older drive.... have you tried the things suggested by error message like using a slower burn speed?

I have been burning CDs up till yesterday. In fact just before this started happening I was able to burn a CD. I don't even know where to begin to troubleshoot the problem because it worked right up till I tried the last burning. I tried 4 new CD and none of them completed a burn. It all aborted at about 98% burn with the attached error and solution message. The solution did not correct the problem.

Maybe try a system restore to a day or two before the problem started? Or uninstall and re-install WMP10?

Not being that savvy with terms, what is a firmware update?

A firmware update for CD/DVD drives is like flashing the BIOS on the motherboard. You're basically updating it's chip that communicates with your other hardware and software, and doing this can fix some problems and compatability issues. But it is not a fix-all. Also, firmware can be hard to locate, and if it's not available directly from the manufacturer, be very careful with what you use. Usually, the manufacturer's tech support can direct you to a firmware update with a how-to guide. If their web site is of no help, see if they have a customer support phone number if you're really determined. They may just offer to replace the drive for you. It's happened before ;)
