computer is infected with a program called trusted antivirus. It has a pop-up which says my computer is infected and to download their program. It says exactly this:

    Warning! Potential Spyware Operation!

Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and Internet files. Run full scan now to prevent unauthorized access to your files! Click YES to download spyware remover...

Please help me remove this program. Also it has changes settings on my computer and I can't use the ADD/REMOVE programs. It has some unauthorized warning and to contact service administrator, or something like that. I ran adaware and others to no avail.

    Please HELP!!!

I don't know where to begin.

    Thanks in advance

So far no pop-up but when I started the computer I noticed a user called Administrator which is keeping me from accessing certain programs and processes on my computer. Any thoughts?
    Thank you

I'm not sure what you are referring to. The Administrator account is a normal account to have on your PC. It the base level admin account and normally the account will only be accessible when you boot in safe mode. The folders for the Administrator account do however show under Documents and Settings just like all user accounts.

If you are still have malware problems, you should run the below procedure.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I'm not sure if it is a malware problem or just some security setting on the computer. When I try to right click and use properties on the desktop or try to use ADD/REMOVE programs I get an error that says:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

If you think it could be malware I'll continue with all the steps, however, if it is just a setting inadvertantly set on my computer perhaps I could just reset it. ANy thoughts?

    Thanks again for your help

Yes malware can do this and so can just policy settings that an administrator creates. If you are the administrator and did not create these policies then continue with the instructions I gave to clean malware.

Here are the logfiles from the scans, however, I screwed up the bit defender log. If you need me to run it again I will.

    Thank you

I'm not seeing anything related to malware in your logs that could be causing issues. You may need to check to make sure that your antivirus and/or Yahoo AntiSpy are not blocking you from doing things. Also you may need to log into the Administrator account in safe boot mode and check your system policies to make sure that none are blocking you. Also make sure your user account still has administrator priviledges. See this too: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278839

Uninstall the Sunbelt CounterSpy trial since we are finished with it now! Then delete the below folders which may be left behind by the uninstall:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software
