    Chas,
I always see you post that nothing belongs there. What is it for then?? Just a question when you get a chance. :D

It is for specifying (as it's name suggests) items in the Trusted Zone to indicate to Internet Explorer that you explicitly trust them to be safe. My attitude is that it is not necessary in 99% of all cases so why do it. It only makes it easier for some piece of malware to take advantage of this. Also if everyone starts doing this the list of sites in the Trusted Zone would get very large. That would make it too easy for bad sites to hide themselves. My thinking is, if we put nothing in there and anything shows up there we immediately should be questioning what is this and how did it get here (that is - be suspicious of it).

Sometimes things that people think are useful can prove to be not that useful.

The hosts file is another example. Too many people are coming up with massive host files blocking thousands of bad sites. That again makes it to easy for malware to hide entries in your host's file making it impossible for you to access good sites (like majorgeeks, mcafee, symantec,... etc). Leaving it the default makes it obvious (when you check it) that some one has playing with your hosts file without your permission or knowledge.
