TSSTcorp cd/dvdw sh-w162c

hi all,
i have installed a cd/dvd +/-rw and nero v6 full, the problem is it won't burn to disk only copy via incd and then only on certain disks, when i load a new disk incd pops up and asks to format but d-drive does not recognise the disk, nero says there is a disk but will not burn.
i have updated everything i can and now i am on my knees asking for help.

my os is 2kpro sp3, 223mb pc100 mem, 858 duron proc, 20 gig hdd,

i have my cd/dvd rw jumper at master and my cd rw at slave.

can anyone help ?
