turn a laptop into a desktop

I want to make my laptop a screen for my desktop and i need help in the how department. I thought if i used a network cable it would help but i need to make use of the desktop printer port for a couple of school projects and i find it hard to address it. all i want to do is ditch my crt monitor, any suggestions

 

Better keep that CRT monitor because I'm sure you can't use the laptop as a monitor for the desktop. This very question was recently discussed in http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139374

 

i swear i read online somewher ethat its posible but i dont know how.

 

so im going to have to try to come up with a cable that can accomplish that

 

what i read is that there is a program that can do it for you but im not sure what cable it uses and how it works, i might have favorited it but i dont know.
