   I have win 7 home basic. Is there a tutorial on a reliable way to install my new win 7 ultimate over my home basic, or a clean install which will live apps and data alone when I do it?

   I am not sure, but if you set your bios to boot to the cd first, as in a normal installation, you should be faced with a choice to "upgrade". That should keep all your doc's and settings.
