    hello,
I just fixed an older computer, probably 6 years old, and I'm having a couple problems with it. It's a toshiba satellite, and I've used this forum several times before to fix it, but it's been several years so I don't really remember the steps. My two problems are this:
Every now and again, it freezes randomly. It didn't do this when I used to use it several years ago. So far the blue screen has shown up twice, but I didn't write down what it said so I'm not sure if it's a virus or an XP problem.
Second, whenever it freezes and I turn my computer off, as soon as I go to start it up again, the lights come on and the fans run, but the screen doesn't show, it's just black. If I wait 30 seconds or so and try again, usually it comes on, but it seems totally random. Sometimes I just have to keep turning it off (by holding the power button for 7 seconds) and turning it back on.

    Thank you for your help!!

    What model #?

I've heard it could be anything from overheating (dust on heatsinks), drivers, improperly seated memory, or even static (grounding) problem!

If you feel like it's malware, you can check out the very nice Malware removal guide.

    Toshiba Satellite.
    Isn't that a laptop?
Might be a weak or low charged battery.
Try plugging into a wall outlet with its adapter and see how it does.
