How do I change the boot order in a UEFI bios when it only shows the HDD?
I need to boot from the DVD to install Win 8.1 on a blank 1TB HDD.
I know I'm just over looking a simple setting.

    ASUS Essentio
Pross. AMD A8-5500 with Radeon HD Graphics 3.20 GHz
    Ram; 6 GB
    Motherboard; F2A85-M/CM1745/DP_MB

Change it to legacy and do it that way.

Two things you need to find and reset in BIOS. The BIOS must be in Legacy mode if it has such a mode and Secure Boot has to be disabled before it will boot from anything other than the HDD.

That worked but, now I'm getting, Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition 1
Windows can't be installed to the disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
I do have another computer I can hook this drive too. What program do I need and how is it done

EDIT - you do not say whether you are trying to install 32 or 64 bit Windows. You can only install 64 bit versions to a GPT disk.

The Asus is 64 bit. I'm trying to install Win 8.1 pro 64 bit.
The drive has 2 partitions. I get the same message on both.

It could be a compatibility issue of some sort. Personally I would use the Partition Wizard Bootable CD to convert the disk to an MBR disk. Win 8.1 will install then.

You need to scroll down the page for the free Bootable CD.

While you're in the Partition Wizard app off of the bootable CD, delete all partitions and have the entire disk as unallocated. This is necessary for the drive to be converted.

I have to transfer files from partition 2 a total of 522 GB and then I'll unallocate the entire
    drive. Back tomorrow with results.

You rather misled us with that statement.

Partition wizard worked great, thanks again guys. I'm transferring files back now.

I should of posted, blank partition 1 not blank drive.
    Sorry about that Earthling

Thanks for letting us know. First case of its kind here so it's good to get confirmation Partition Wizard can handle it. Unfortunate that we won't ever know why 8.1 couldn't be installed.

That is interesting since computers that ship w/8, 8.1 are UEFI and GPT. Wonder if only 64-bit versions can be installed to "3rd party" GPT drives. :confused

It isn't so much a question of 3rd party - you can only install 64 bit to all GPT drives. See #7 and #8.
