I have 2 machines with boot problems; 1) a nasty virus has infected the MBR so its just a twilight screen, and 2) it attempts to boot but times out and asks for recovery steps.

The second machine will not recover or repair the affected area and it will not boot in safe mode. Are these machines candidates for Super Grub disk, or is there a abridged repair program to download to enable these machines to reboot...? These are both Acer laptops.

Thanks for any direction that can be offered. There are multiple boot options in the BIOS, is there a straightforward solution to the problems...? Thanks

The instructions on this page should help with the MBR issue. It will require an install DVD. On the second machine, it seems you need to do a clean install of Vista.
