I tried to complete all of the steps within the READ ME FIRST.

I got all the way up to the point where I needed to run the SUPER AntiSpy. At that point, I stopped because the problem I was having occured once again.

My computer keeps freezing up. Previously I had problems with Internet Explorer - It kept shutting down and restarting. It did this many, many times and I tried to troubleshoot with their suggestions and nothing seemed to work. (I downloaded their Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner - but when I run it, my laptop freezes....so nothing ever gets accomplished)

Now, anytime I'm on my laptop, it freezes. I don't know if 'freeze' is the correct term. When I run a scan, the 'time elapsed' is still running, but nothing is actually running.

I cannot use ctrl+alt+del because it wont let the screen pop up. The laptop does nothing and I have to shut it down by pressing the power button.

When starting up, I tried to start in safe mode, but that freezes and it won't start up - I then have to use the power button once again to shut it off. Then after that, it wants me to run something to repair it.

I run the repair before start up and after the repair scan is done, it says that it could not be fixed automatically.

I seem to keep having problems with Windows and IE. I had a family member visit and ever since then, my laptop hasn't been working properly. It did show that I had a trojan and after throubleshooting that multiple times, I finally didn't see it on any scans I ran.

I'm not sure if there is something that is still harming my computer or not, but for a couple of months now, I've been having problems.

I am very careful about what I click on, download, etc. I don't like people to use my laptop, but at the time I couldn't be rude. As I feared, they clicked on anything and everything....so I'm not sure what happened.

I am lost on what I should do - please let me know if there is any information I need to get to you in order to help progress with in solving my problem.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Right now your problems sound more like a hardware issue (perhaps overheating or memory) than they do malware.

Have you attempted running in safe boot mode to see if it still "freezes"? If not then try it. Run scan in safe boot mode if possible. Try to run MGtools.exe as requested.

Also try running the below which is a reaonably quick scan.

Download TDSSKiller from Kaspersky to your directly onto your Desktop
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor. )
    • Allow the application to run if prompted by Windows or any security programs you have installed
    • It will start the scan and run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

I am unable to start up in safe mode - it fails and then I have to turn it off by holding down the power button.

I ran the tdsskiller and have the report and have attached it. The scan did not find any problems.

Correct and I still think your problems are hardware related; however you did not attach the log from MGtools yet. Did you attempt to run it?
