unable to defragment hard drive

Hi, my hard drive is 45% defragmented and I have tried 2 different defragmenters to no avail. It still shows 45% AFTER defragmentation. I've used Diskeeper Lite and Smart Defrag. Can anyone help please.

Try ultimate defrag - Free edition, google it. Has an option to do fragmented files only, then try doing full defrag, also defrags seem to run quicker, in my opinion, if a scan disc is done first.

Ultimate defrag is my fav has some very nice options. Currently defragging a drive that had almost 41% fragmentation.

Ultimate Defrag is also on my machine along with Auslogics. Ultimate Defrag can even consolidate your files or sort by recency of use. Will do either while sorting for performance.

 

Have you tried defragging in safe mode? When you defrag have you removed the computer from the internet and shut down most all the other programs?
Have you tried setting it to defrag when the computer boots up and before windows loads?

 

The DK Lite and others cannot defrag system files. You may have system files like the MFT and pagefile that are fragmented.

Download the trial version of the Diskeeper 2008 pro (edit: 2009 pro) from http://www.diskeeper.com which is a full version and can be used for 30 days for free. Defrag with it and run a boot-time defrag if necessary for the MFT and page file. Diskeeper should be able to defrag all the files.
EDIT: sorry, just clicked on my own link, and it seems the current version is V.2009, and not V.2008.
