    Hi there:
I am unable to open Programs and Features in WIN 8.1 on my 1.5 y/o Surface Pro 2. Noticed the issue about a week ago when trying to delete an older version of Java that was hanging around. Everything else seems to be working okay and I have not lost the internet at all. I was a beta tester for MS OneCare and I remember that this issue is a sign of a virus infection of some kind. Using Trend Micro Internet Security which comes up clean. The UAC has been turned off although the HitmanPro log says enabled.
I have followed the MG Malware Readme Guide faithfully. The UAC is still turned off at this point as I have not moved on to Step 5 as per the instructions.
Please advise and thank you all so much!! Rob Allen

Re run Hitman Pro, activate the 30 day free trial and have it remove all it finds.

    Delete this:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\CaUtThePrice

Give Ccleaner a run (not the reg scanner, just the cleaner itself) to be rid of a chunk of temp files.

Run Hitman again and attach a fresh log for me.

    Explain how things are running.

    Hi there:
    Thank you for your assistance.
Reran the activated Hitman Pro which removed the items after the reboot.
    Deleted the *CutthePrice*
    Ran CCleaner
    New Hitman Pro log generated.

I am still unable to open the Program and Features in Control Panel even after the reboots.

Then I would post about it in the software forum. ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Yes, thank you. I have booked mark that reference page and will re-read it.

I am still unable to access Programs/Features in the Control Panel of my WIN 8.1.
I will report it in the Software Forum as you suggest.
    Thanks.
