The problem was identified when I opened Outlook Express 6.0 to recieve e-mail. I saw it download...new messages were indicated on my task bar, but when I went to my inbox...they weren't there. Also, the last 10 days worth of e-mails are also missing (just from the inbox). All other folders seem to be fine.

Also...we have multiple accounts on this computer. Using Windows XP (professional). Outlook only seems to be affected on one account.

This morning, I ran Trend Micro which found nothing. Then I ran bitdefender which found 3 viruses and deleted several files (30+) Many seemed to identify as Trend Micro as the source.

So...I came here and went through the procedure for removing spyware/malware/trojans. All the early steps indicated a clean machine. (done in safe mode) I was unable to run bitdefender because it kept saying I need to install active x (which I did) and Panda kept having a page error and wouldn't run either. (done in normal mode)

I have attached my HTJ log along with getrunkey and shownew files.

Nothing else appears to be wrong with my computer. I am at a loss at what to do short of uninstalling and reinstalling MS Outlook. Please help.

No, I don't use McAfee...I use VI Robot expert...but after going to the link and reading the symptoms, it sounds like a similar issue. I was a little confused, I'm not sure it explained how to restore the .dat file...so I went a different route.

I downloaded Thunderbird and I was able to transfer all my Outlook Express address and previous e-mails, and it also 'found' the missing e-mails. I'm still torn whether fixing my e-mail was a good thing or not.. ;)

...but at least I can do so now. Thank your for the link. It was a big help.

    Happy E-Mailing ;)
