Friends of mine have 2 Vista PC's (One Toshiba laptop--------one Sony Vaio all-in-one Desktop) both with Windows Media Player v11 on them.

    Search on uninstall+wmp gives:
    http://us2.ixquick.com/do/metasearch.pl?
    http://forums.techarena.in/operating-systems/1192333.htm
    http://forums.techarena.in/media-player/1136497.htm

    1. Can I delete it? How?
Contradicting statements that you can, or cannot, eg:
    http://forums.techarena.in/media-player/1136497.htm
    Revo doesn't show it.
    Add/delete doesn't show it.

One link I came across shows a Registry delete link tip. Can't find it again for the moment. Time for bed (11:25pm ;))

    2. What happens if I just delete the Folder, and run Registry cleaner/s afterwards?

    3. Can I repair it? How?

    4. Should I not bother as I have installed iTunes on them both today. :)

    5. Does WMP 12 run on Vista? Differing links say that WMP12 is for W7 only.

    Any help/suggestions/advice appreciated. :major

    Hi Bazza

First off WMP 12 is built into Windows 7 and not available legitimately as a separate download, not to say some smart person hasn't ripped it from Win7 as a standalone.

WMP 11 is also part of the OS in Vista and not advisable to uninstall as its tied into many APIs and uninstalling it may break some, just depends what apps you use need them so best left alone in uninstalling.

If WMP11 is not working and has issues what are they and any associated error messages would be helpful, but main cause is an add-on most likely a CODEC pack so uninstall any if installed and reboot and try again.

One thing if WMP11 is not starting is to re-register its .dll file and do this from an elevated CMD prompt and type regsvr32 wmp.dll and hit enter (do have WMP closed)

iTunes works well for media player and if you have installed that and both have iPods/iPhones etc then jibs a goodun.

Thanks DavidGP for your reply. :major

As I only visit these friends on odd occasions, I cannot apply your suggestions immediately. :( From what I remember, WMP 11 simply does not startup. No error messages, just nothing. :(

    As for your suggestion:
I will do this on my next visit.

FYI, Windows Media Center works perfectly and the Sony plays Aussie TV on it, perfectly. I don't know if this may be relevant.
