Hello, My new computer came with McAfee Security Centre pre-installed. When I look at the McAfee suite in Programs, there is no uninstaller. When I go to Add/Remove Programs the only McAfee program listed is the 'McAfee Uninstaller'. How do I uninstall this program if there is no uninstaller listed in Programs and the only McAfee program listed in add/remove is the uninstaller?

I've read quite a bit about uninstalling this program and it sounds like it can be quite a nightmare. What would be the best way for me to get rid of it. How will I know if the uninstall was successful before installing another security program/antivirus? Thanks for your help.

If it is running in your system tray ...stop it ...then go to add/remove and uninstall ....suggest you create a restore point before doing any of this.
Then when done run CCleaner (cleaner and issues ...make sure you make a backup in the issues before running the fix when prompted).

Hi TimW, The only McAfee program listed in Add/Remove is the called 'McAfee Uninstaller'. This isn't what I'm looking for is it?

I'm confused. Isn't the uninstaller program the one I need to remove McAfee?

If you click on it ..it will tell you something like this will remove mcaffee blahblah ...do you wish to proceed.
I'm assuming you are logged in with admin rights ...you might want to do this in safe mode.

News flash ...the uninstaller is a program to uninstall other programs ....so if the security suite is not in add/remove ...where is it? If it is a folder on your c drive ...is there anything in it?

Read my last post ....I'm uncertain that you even have the security suite ...Mcafee Uninstaller is a program to uninstall things...where is the security suite showing up?

TimW, It's in Programs. It's functioning/updating etc, so it's there. It's just not showing up in the add/remove list and theres no uninstall in Programs. It's like they don't want you uninstalling it. If the uninstaller is showing up in add/remove though it must be somewhere on the hard drive, yes?

Click START, RUN and then type REGEDIT, then hit enter. Navigate to the following key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\M... Click folders until you see the folder for Mcafee security. Open it, and right click on the text that says "uninstall string". Click modify. Copy the highlighted text (right click, copy).

Click START, RUN, and paste the text you just copied into the box (right click, paste). Hit enter.
