unsolicited mouse movement/clicking - very strange

First off, I am no computer newbie, so I thought I had a clean computer without any outstanding spyware or viruses. I have run into a quite aggravating problem and have absolutely no clue what is causing it. I am quite unsure whether it is spyware or a hacker or some kind of mouse malfunction or what else.

Basically what happens is this: at any given random time, my pointer will move to the very top right corner of the screen and do a bunch of super-fast right-clicks and left-clicks, so that it closes out of any maximized windows and clicks any other buttons that happen to be lingering up there. This happens whether I am surfing the web, editing something in photoshop, in the middle of a computer game (really messes with your aiming :( ) or in any other given circumstance. I use windows XP, with Firefox browser, and am big on the p2p client, Limewire. I have run multiple spyware-removal programs and virus scans (Ad-aware, Spybot, Bazooka Scanner, Symantec Anti-Virus, Spysweeper) and have found nothing that points to such a problem. The only trace of spyware i have found is with the Bazooka scanner (Coolwebsearch toolbar), and i beleive even that one finding is inaccurate, for i have followed the instructions for removal exactly several times, I downloaded the coolwebsearch toolbar removal and ran that, and searched the registry manually for any conspicuous entries and deleted them. I have run Hijack this and removed any suspicious entries, only leaving about 4 or 5 of which I am sure of their purpose.

Perhaps I have missed something, or perhaps it isn't spyware or a virus at all. Also, I use McAfee Personal Firewall to prevent any unknown inbound connections. (I am connected to internet on cable modem through a router in a network with a few other home computers.) From the McAfee Firewall, I occasionally get notified of an unsolicited connection attempt on some TCP port, but it is always not allowed.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I am curious if anyone has heard of something like this before or not. This is not the most devastating problem I have ever had (certainly not as painful as when I first encountered WToolsA, without the knowledge of how to remove it), but it easily becomes annoying. Thanks for your help, anyone who can

In about 5 cases where I saw this problem before, it wound up being the actually mouse itself that needed replacement. See if you have another mouse you can try first. If that does not work and you believe there is malware at play, follow the steps below.

To help us to best help you, please follow the steps below closely and in the order given and do not skip anything. If you have any difficulty, please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything along with details about any problems you may have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better. Don't be afraid to ask for additional help if you don't understand something!

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus RemovalMake sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download
    HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following: your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message.(Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Let me know if another mouse helps or not. It is always good for us to find out what solutions really worked. From you message I assume that means you tried the READ ME FIRST thread and it did not help?
