Hello,
I was unable to view every thread, so I apologize if this is a duplicate answered issue.

I'm attempting to import address book and email folders from old drive on to my new system. (Old Drive in same box) Nothing is happening. When I browse the path to reach the dbx. files nothing shows. When I look at the file through My Computer I can see the dbx.'s and then when I attempt to load them in OE, I get the following message.

No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required fields open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open.

I don't see anything running.

As for the address book entries.. are they generally stored in a "Windows" file? I've been unable to find those. I have found files that say they are wab files however when I choose this (Through My Computer View) It opens an empty address book as if I am in OE.

Any advice is helpful..

THANKS

Have you tried using ctrl+alt+dlt to look for a program that may be using the files? Like Microsoft Outlook maybe?

Thank you for your responses.

When I check the read only box, apply and check it after I close the properties window, it defaults back to checked read only box.

I have moved the dbx files to desktop. However I'm not sure how to import the messages without using the OE >file>Import function which obviously runs OE if its open.

I hope this response will lead to more suggestions.

Again, Thank you..

Re: How to terminate Windows Default Mail Prompt and OE defautls to IP Address.

In addition to previous threads I also have the following questions.

Upon Windows Loading after Powering on.. a window appears on the desktop with the following message

Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfil the message request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.

I do not want MO as default mail client. Where do I set default mail client? The OE account where my mail is configured is noted as default.

Also my mail account in OE continues to default POP3 server to an IP address which does not capture my email from its server. I put in an address name in POP3 to capture my email.

Thanks again

So you get the "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required fields open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open." error when you open Outlook express? In that case, you may want to create a new identity and then import the files on your desktop. To create a new Outlook express Identity without opening Outlook, go to start, go to run, type "wab", and then when the Windows Address book opens, go to file-> switch identity, choose "manage identites", add a new identity, then set it as the default in both the dropdown boxes.

To change the default mailing program, open internet explorer, go to tools-> internet options, and go to the programs tab.

If I'm missing something here, let me know. If "read only" is becoming re-checked, make sure there are no "msimn.exe" processes running in the background (with task manager).

Importing doesn't work directly from a CD, btw. Doesn't sound like that was what is going on here, but thought it would be worth doublechecking. :)

good luck.

It seems like I'm stuck in some conditional loop with out knowing the condition necessary to leave that loop.

good luck.Thanks still need it

Re: Default mail entry does not stay.

Hey again..

I have tried several times to .... go to

START > ALL PROGRAMS > SET PROGRAMS DEFAULTS AND ACCESS > ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS > CUSTOM > and have set the OE to default email. (a radio button)

What would prevent this change from staying as I chose it? I have restarted Windows after making the change and when I check to where I have changed it.. it defaults back to Microsoft Outlook. Which I DO NOT want at all.

Same issue is continuously happening in OE when I go to tools/accounts and change my POP3 mail server. It changes itself back to an IP address that I do not wish to have in that entry. The IP address does not capture my email.

Still unable to import my dbx (messages) into OE. I have put the file with the dbx's on the desktop and it consistently puts an entry in checkbox read-only box; even after I change it.

Is there a text that anyone can recommend that may guide me to resolving this Windows/OE issue.

Thank you again
