There are many (most) here who are much better qualified to answer questions but you may want to look at this about the error code

That can happen if you try to update manually when the system is trying to update itself automatically. In that case a reboot should enable it to install.

Did this sort itself out or not?
You can get these errors if alot of updates are coming at once as some need to be installed before others, somewhere MSFT have got this out of order reciently, a reboot and re-run of Windows update generally sorts this out,

I tend to if you have a large amount of updates and especially if Office is installed, I untick Office updates, install Windows updates, reboot and then install Office updates.

I will keep both ideas I mind. I will install Office after Windows and also go to reboot to sort things out.
I keep my notification on "ask me first" because you never know what is being updated. At times I check for updates like after and install and perhaps as you say that creates a conflict.
