When you say it doesn't see the card, have you checked in Device Manager (Control Panel | Device Manager)? What does it show? If it shows the card is physically there you need to load the drivers for it to work (you do have the installation CD or downloaded drivers?).

Simply insert the CD (or double-click the drivers) to start the installation routine.

If the card doesn't show up in Device Manager, then its not properly seated in your motherboard. Go Back and re-seat the card so it locks in place. I'm assuming you have the right slot type for the card on your motherboard, and that you aren't trying to fit a 2.1 card into a 2.0 slot!

What I mean by the card is not seen by my pc is :my computer will not start up or should I say the monitor is dark, blank so I can not even get to the device manager. It can only go in one slot my pci X16 slot, from my understanding.
Thank you for your help my friend.

Ouch! OK, what motherboard do you have (including revision number, if any)? And I presume you tried removing the card and re-seating it, yes?

Next question: does the computer power on, sound like its doing its POST testing etc., or does it 'just sit there silently'?

Last question: can you leave the card plugged into your board and have the onboard graphics active to see if the card is being recognized by the system?

I have reseated it many times, computer does power up (I hear the fans). It will not let me use on-board graphics while card is plugged in for some reason??
    Thanks again for your help

And your motherboard is what (need to make sure the card slot and the card match up)?

I just went to the Sapphire site and it said a 400 watt power supply is needed but other sites says it is not necessary??? I only have a 275 watt I think = the problem right???

    Thanks

OK, I looked up your motherboard @ Intel.com, and for the PCI Express slot they simply list it as, "PCI Express x16 Connector" - no version number is specified. Which leads me to suspect its version 2.0. But according to the specs for the Radeon card, it needs a version 2.1 slot.

If my supposition about the Intel spec is right, then the reason you don't get anything is because the specs are mismatched. A 2.0 card will work in a 2.1 slot but a 2.1 card won't work in a 2.0 slot! My suggestion would be to borrow (if possible) a PCI Express version 2.0 x16 Connector card; that would tell you right off whether that's the correct slot or not. I'm sorry, but I don't know anything else to suggest. You might try another site, related to Tom's Hardware, called computing.net that might have some different ideas (I post there so I know the site is safe).

And the reason you can't have the two videos working simultaneously is because, "When a PCI Express x16 add-in card is installed, the GMA X3000 graphics controller is disabled.". So at least that's the way it should function.

RE: Power Supply, that would be a big factor separate from the version of the PCI slot, which I still think is an issue. Though what it sounds like either way, is that you have the wrong card!

    From http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Everything-You-Need-to-Know-About-the-PCI-Express/190 page 4/4:
The card should work fine, the power draw is only ~20W max. so for most users, a 400W supply is overkill.

Without wanting to start an argument, I have to say I'm skeptical. Besides, if all that is true, then why doesn't his card work? :confused

If you haven't fixed the problem I may have a solution.

I had the same problem when putting together old spare parts to make an htpc with a pentium & same chipset as yours for my home office.

My sapphire 5450 did the exact same thing. I got a cheap Geforce 210 & it worked fine. The problem was that the slot was gen 1 & the amd card wasn't backwards compatible. The Geforce is & I'm watching TV with it right now with WMC.

(Hyper threaded single core pentium actually makes a pretty good htpc!)

***I ordered the card from Wal-Mart - site to store free shipping - so that I could return it to the store with no shipping charge if it didn't work.

I almost scrapped the idea but didn't. Very glad - I couldn't get the multi-point audio to work on a 7770 with my current Llano A8-3780k setup (oc'd to 3.8 on air)

You are posting to a thread that is 6 month old. I doubt the OP is returning.
