I need to know if my 550 watt PSU can handle a newer CPU.

The current one i have is AMD Athlon II X2 260 3.20Ghz 65watts.
The one i want to get is a AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket 125W

    My full build
    AMD Athlon II X2 260
    8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3
    MSI 870A-G54 (Mob)
1023MB GeForce GTX 550 Ti (EVGA) (Super clocked bye factory default)

Check the wattage of the CPU at www.amd.com, then usw a PSU wattage calculator such as http://www.corsair.com/us/learn_n_explore/?psu=yes.

One other question: Is your PSU a high quality name brand or a generic one? If it's generic, it's unlikely you're getting a true 550-watt constant output and should consider upgrading to a better one such as Corsiar or Cooler Master.

    Hope this helps. :)

The PSU is a very important component and you are asking for big trouble with this cheapie.
Here"s just one opinion ----I notice two problems off the bat, "LOGISYS Computer PS550ABK 550Watts ATX12V Power Supply With SATA and 20/24 Pin connectors." Is the first one and the most important one. DO NOT buy no name power supplies, this is a no name power supply. You want to stick with the good brands like, Antec, Corsair, Seasonic.

I bought a cheapie like that for a standby ( old computer that i had previously and it died in two weeks and took components with it)

Here's one you ought to consider http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...yMark=False&IsFeedbackTab=true#scrollFullInfo

Corsair makes decent power supplies, i have a slightly different version, but its treated me very well.

I've been running my OCZ for years, with absolutely no issue.

The new Rosewill in the spare room is humming along nicely as well. Rolled out the five year old video card for something new, and that old Dell seems to like it just fine. :)

If you have any doubts about a PSU, this is the best tester I know of and it acts like a "Wiggy" electric meter which draws a load when testing a circuit. Multi-meters can only get you so far.

Do you know of any modulated ones.I don't want any with all the cords bunched up into one.

I had a another 550 same and it was a cheap0 build at the time but i will be getting some tax refund money to upgrade.

Power supply's all ways confuse me.

    Will this one work--->>http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012

I think you would be extremely happy with that one and will have many years use, even if you upgrade in the future.:wave

I also thought I would suggest the one that I have.
It is whisper quiet and with everything that I have running keeps the comp at 32 - 35C.

If you can live with non-modular, have a look.
