few years ago I used Paragon to partition my hard drive that WinXP would not read as big as it is.
I was able to create drive s"C" and "E" "E" being my primary drive.
I needed to either move files (lots of em) to C to make some space, but thought I'd have a look at Paragon again.
Thee is an option to redistribute space from one partition to another.
In this case I asked it to do some space from C to E.

On reboot it began what looked like a 17 hour process.
there as the offer to cancel with either Esc or Cntrl+C

so I asked it to stop.

    now WinDOWS will not boot.
    not even in safe more

    help please advise...

I was thinking of loading another XP hard drive as a new MAster and Slave to problem drive and try to either save my info or complete the space allocation.
If anyone knows a way to complete the task please advise.

    Please advise anyway.
    Thanks do much in advance.

You could try booting from your XP cd and repairing the installation.

If that doesn't work, your best bet is likely to be just what you said; take another hdd with an os installed, boot from it and retrieve the data you want to save, then wipe and reinstall on the problem hdd.

I'm not familiar with Paragon, but you might take a look at EASEUS. I've used it a good bit without a hitch, but it is a very good idea for the future to set yourself up decent size partition for your OS, and then leave that one alone. Anytime you change that partition you are running the risk of messing up your OS no matter what partition manager you are using. It's also not a bad idea at all to use something like this to defragment your hdd before you change partitions.

My personal view is that Easeus is the better of the two managers but it can still be dangerous if you stop it in the middle of a process (i have done it too) the best way is to try a repair from your XP cd alternatively create a new partition and load the OS to that then it will let you open the old folders and retrieve the data.

    here's where I am today.
I did reinstall, but let XP install on the "back up" partition
Now I think I need to uninstall the back up and reinstall on the other.

WHILE XP INSTALLED it deleted hundreds of orphaned segments.
Then it ... I forget what it did next.
Then it set about recovering deleted files.
Then it started, on the backip partition, in a new XP config... and though I can see th files and many images are still there.
I can not get at any programs and most files.

    sounds scary, don't it?

I may have already just lost everything.
Am hoping to find a recovery program.
your thoughts on the above adventure?

PS... just now PC tools recovery is scanning my system.
This is probably a BIG waste of my day as it will finish, tell me all the good things it will do for me ...for a price.
and after I pay, I will have to wait the whole thing out again.

    Bill, Thanks.
There are two things I wish people helping and offering downloads like this one would include in their help.
    1. that the program is or is not free ONLY TO SCAN and NOT free to use,
and 2- this needs to be installed on another HD.
It's a little thing and probably assumed but most tech guys.
I am not a tech guy.
    I am a smarter-than-average-about-user-stuff mom.
....used to have another HD around here some where....
    THNX!!!
