I am trying to transfer data from my Dad's PC over to mine using a portable USB drive but when I plug the USB Drive into my Dad's PC it doesn't even recognise it.

I've been into "My Computer" to check whether it's there but it isn't. I've even tried it with an MP3 Player & a different USB Drive but still the same problem.

It was working fine a month ago when I last checked but now it isn't. I've also been into Device Manager to see if the USB ports on the PC are working properly and there doesn't seem to be any problem there.

What could be the problem and how am I able to solve it? The PC with the problem is running Windows 98.

Windows 98 doesn't have built-in support for external USB drives. To use it you'll need to install a device driver. Find the drive manufacturers web page and look for a Windows 98 device driver. This is also the case for USB Flash "drives" or "thumb drives" as they've been called. If your external USB hard drive came pre-packaged with a CD, you might even find a Windows 98 USB driver there. :)
