USB Hard Drive Not Recognized

    I have a generic 100GB USB hard drive. It works no problem on my Toshiba laptop, but when I plug it into my desktop it either shuts the computer down or it does not show up in My Computer. I have the safely remove hardware button in the tray, and when you plug it in, the USB Mass Storage Device thing appears in the Hardware Manager.

    What gives?
