Usb sd card readers

Anyone know of a reliable usb sd card reader?

I use these a lot transfer , edit/extract data various times week.
My issue is that i can't seem to find any that actually last for more than some months.

I buy some online for a little over $1 each, they last about 6 months BUT some of them fail much sooner.

I was looking for one with an LED light, anyone know of any good ones?

Also i see some new innovations that have all these readers in with small usb thumb drive. Anyone use these? They seem very convenient for multiple things

 

My experience shows these are a flakey-lot of products. Some DOAs, some die within a few uses, some within a few dozen. Your "some last 6 months, others not" would fall into my experience, too.

Considering how the media is treated, how the connectors are treated, maybe "It's a wonder they work at all-!" isn't a bad attitude. This might be one of those "Buy 3, hope for one good one" type of products. Maybe even "buy 5..."

I do like the Thumb Drive setup because I know I'm doing an EJECT USB DEVICE for the Safely Removal process. When I use the USB HUB ("70 readers in one!!") and do an EJECT, it's tough to believe electrical current and data signals are passing to the exact correct slot.

Then again, it depends on how many Mem-Cards I'm handling at one time, too - if I've got a stack to process in one sitting, those 70-in-one hubs leaves my PC's USB connector less affected by so many tugs, ejects and re-inserts. I'd rather risk the hubs rather than my PC's USB connectors.

 

I've used this probably for 6 -8 years. I purchased it at Office Max; it is the store brand, Ativa.
I searched the site but they may not carry it.

I don't know the reliability of that brand.

I've had no problem with any computer recognizing sd cards and micro hcsd cards.
