useful piece of networking information

I play Dark Age of Camelot nearly every night. Multi player role playing based on player vs. player as endgame. I have a level 50 char and often find myself in the same area with a couple hundred other players and the bandwidth it soaks is somewhat too much for any adsl connection. Often I go what we call "linkdead" and get booted .. sometimes repeatedly, under heavy load.

My friend looked at my linksys firewall/router and suggested I throw it away and buy a microsoft router. I laughed at him, but he convinced me to try it and I haven't had a problem since.

Who'da thought.

That game barely uses any bandwidth.

I have monitored my incoming and outgoing and it barely uses 56k speeds in most cases.


But yeah, some Linksys routers are crap with that game.

Mine never had issue, but it was of a newer hardware and firmware than of the devices people complain about.

 

It uses a lot of bandwidth if you're playing it right, you ass.
Why did I even come back here to post when I knew a child like you would be waiting to try to discredit anything I said.

What a loser. I'll make you happy (since you're so amazing and all) and I won't even try to sneak any comments in.. since you apparently don't have much to do besides lurk around and be... yourself.

If the game uses so much bandwidth, how come I used 56k with it for 2 years without issue? Rarely linkdead, zoned as fast as everyone else, and lagged as bad as evryone else on a relic or dragon raid?

I guess I could tell you that the engine they use is unoptimized all to hell for the game, and causes severe VIDEO lag in the game. Network bandwidth is irrelevant.



But, whatever, I dont have time to argue with kids.
