    XP Home...
    must be there..I am blind..
are there any ways to change account types for users to something other than admin or limited...

admin has too much, limited..not enough...

Goldfish had a thread a while back about it... but couldn't change anything...

    any thoughts?

    Have you tried:

    Control Panel / User Accounts?

Or did I misunderstand?....I do that all the time (Miss something on the computer, because it is something learned and discarded)

Let me know if the above works. ;)

Hmmm, I think this is what you want. Safest way to surf with XP. This is the way i did it.

    Creating a Power User Account:

    1. Go to the Start Menu

    2. Right-click My Computer

    3. Choose Manage

    4. Click system tools

    5. Click Local Users and Groups

    6. Right-click Users, and then choose New User from the Context menu.

    7. New user Dialog

    8. Type info

    9. Click Create, then click Close.

    10. Click Users

    11. Double-click New User Icon

    12. The Username properties dialog box appears.

    13. Click the Member Of tab, and Click Add

    14. Type in Power Users, then Click the Check Names button

    15. Click OK.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adding Special Privileges to the Power User Account:

    1. Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Administrative Tools

    2. Double Click Local Security Policy.

    3. Click on Local Policies

    4. Double Click User Rights Assignment.

    5. Double click Increasing Scheduling Priority.

    6. Click Add User or Group button

    7. Type the name of the User that you want to be able to access the program

    8. Click Check names

    9. Click OK

    10. Click OK again.

BTW, I've got XP Pro, hope it works for you.

That wont work in XP Home, you dont have the Users and Groups Management console

Get better control over user accounts in XP Home
    Thats the thread....

If you click a user, then click properties, then Group Membership, you should be able to eiter have Admin, limited or another. Unfortunatley you cant add your own groups but I cant see a way around that in XP Home

the problem is you can't change any of the settings (as far as I can find) for users in XP Home....

I had XP home for 1 week before I realized that XP Pro was the way to go. I will always advocate XP Pro even for limited home users. Just a better OS all in all over XP Home. You might want to upgrade if you find you want to start changing user features, permissions, and doing some home networking.

That thread happened ages ago, and i agree Pro is easier to work with (less restrictions) but some of use dont have a choice :)
