I am new to the forum so please forgive me if this is in the wrong area. I have a computer that was infected by a malware (blazefind it think) and the userinit.exe file is missing. The computer logs in and then logs out right away.

I have tried copying and renaming the userinit.exe file and it is not on the drive. My question is, if I copy the userinit.exe file from another xp machine onto a floppy disk, can I use that file to replace the missing file on my machine?

    Thanks in advance!

If it is the same service pack ( 2 or 3) and coming from the i386 folder, then probably.

Thanks Tim. I have fixed the problem...I ended up using copy from D:\ (xp cd) then expand to the system folder.

That would do it also.....just wanted to try the easy first, as not sure if you were comfortable with doing what you did. :)
