Using a Second Monitor - Compatibility Advice?

I have a dell pc using win XP home edition & I also have an apple mac pro lap top that has dual OS installed, windows XP professional being the second OS.

Is it possible to connect my lap top to my pc via the second video output I have on the dell pc tower so that I can use the apple as a second monitor or is there incompatibility issues between the two different systems?

If it will work is there any required software required to do this or any thing else I should be aware of?

I usually jump in with both feet but thought I should check with you guys first having had great advice from you before.

I had visions of hooking it all up and seeing it all go up in a puff of blue smoke! :cry

You can't use the MacBook Pro as a second monitor. You'd have to buy an extra display.
