I have Ubuntu and Windows XP dual booting on my computer and was wondering if I could install ant-virus/malware removal tools on the Linux partition and scan the windows partition. Would this be effective, or does windows need to be running in order for these programs to find the problems?

Also, I was wondering if it would be possible to load anti-virus/malware programs on a Linux bootable thumb drive (such as pendrive Linux) in order to scan other computers without booting windows?
    Thanks for any input,
    Nick

If Windows is not running, many things will be missed.

I suggest that you ask in the Software Forum but again you will still not find everything even if it is possible.
