Verification appreciated for running spyware removal tutorial

    Hi there,

    Just wanted to say thanks to you guys for the excellent tutorial for removing spyware, malware, and hi-jack stuff :)

    My original problems included, my machine would lockup (mouse cursor stiill glides on the screen though) for no apparent reason after awaking from Minimal Powersave Mode. There was nothing else I could do other than hit the reset button on the case. I made a mistake and surfed on AltaVista website previously and I think I picked up some nasty stuff.

    I ran though the complete tutorial carefully. I could not get SpyBot to run in Windows Safe Mode with network support. It would just stay minimized forever. I runs fine in Normal mode, kind of odd??? I ran SpyBot after rebooting back into Normal mode and it came up with eBay toolbar spyware, which I had the program delete.

    The Panda Activescan did find a couple of issues :eek: that you can see from the attached file.

    I would really appreciate if you could take a look and let me know what you think.

    Are your Spy Sweeper and Spyware Doctor programs paid subscription versions or trials?

    They are trial versions. I have also paid subscriptions to Webroot Spysweeper, Kasperski Antivirus, Spydoctor and System Mechanic 5. I ran those prior to running the tutorial in Normal mode.

    Why are you running a trial versions of Spy Sweeper and Spyware Doctor (I assume you did not mean SpyDoctor) if you have the paid version?

    If you have paid versions, uninstall the trial software. Then install the paid version of Spy Sweeper and update it. Then run a full scan with it and attach the log to you next message. DO NOT re-install SpywareDoctor. You do not want mutliple full protection tools like Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor and MS Antispyware all installed and running as a long term solution. They will slow your system down and can cause conflicts with each other. In fact, since you say you have a subscription to SpySweeper, you should also now uninstall MS Antispyware since you have already scanned with it and it will not be needed anymore. SpySweeper is better anyway.

    You still have eBay tool bar and several other toolbars installed. Do you want/use all of these:
    Yahoo Companion
    Google
    eBay

    You have no real malware issues in you HJT log but you can have HJT fix the below lines:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
    R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    You can also delete the two below items from the Panda log:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MYDLL.dll
    G:\MySoftware\Adobe Audition v1.5\OtherPackages\Adobe Audition 1.5 crack.zip

    Downloading and using cracked software is a sure way to get your system infected. Hopefully all these tools you mentioned that you have subscriptions to are legitimate. Trying to use an illegal copies of the scanners may run you into issues while trying to get updates and with out the ability to get updates, the scanners are not going to remain useful.
