I want to ask the experts at Major Geeks -- do you know if Vipre is a good antivirus program? I guess version 4 just came out recently. I know MG has recommended Sunbelt products in the past (at one point CounterSpy was recommended for spyware removal).

For the life of me, I can't seem to find a lot of data on this antivirus online, and it doesn't seem to be included in the major antivirus software test comparisons. Is this because it's too new? It's hard for me to tell how effective this program is at catching viruses/spyware without more data.

I have moved your thread to the software forum so others can give their opinions. :)

    Thanks!

So does anyone here have much experience with Vipre? Or heard/read much about it?

I've had the opportunity to use Vipre briefly, and know someone who recommends it. It does seem very light on system resources, but I don't know how good the virus/spyware detection is compared to other AV products.

I know about the cnet and pcmag reviews, but they're both a year and half old:

    Thanks bazza!

Looks like Vipre is definitely competent, I'm going to give it a try. I like the "unlimited home license" for all the PCs in one's house.

Based on tests from Matousec, it seems Sunbelt's firewall isn't very good (I believe they acquired it from another company), but their antivirus/spyware looks promising.

I'm thinking of trying out PC Tools Firewall Plus. Looks like it's an Australian company that was bought by Symantec:

At this point, I think I'm going to prefer using Vipre over Norton anyway, despite the improvements they've made with the 2009 and 2010 versions.

I use Sunbelt's Personal Firewall (combined with NOD32 antivirus) and it's doing its job properly, so far as I can tell.
Have to say though I found BlackICE much more user friendly. I was very sorry when it was terminated. Please excuse my software nostalgia.

:) I used it and when nothing else would remove a fake antivirus completely, Vipre did!
