Virus in Windows Live Mail and Messenger

I believe I have a virus. When I open an e-mail in Windows Live Mail it comes in as an attachment and when I click the Chrome circle the e-mail opens as it should. But a pop up box keeps telling me I need to log in to Messenger and then doesn't open. I cannot get messages from Hotmail acct. When I click to see more details on this box it takes me to a Skyp page to download that. I have run my CCleaner and have AVG free.
Any ideas?

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I found a box checked in my options for Windows Live Mail that had been checked that limited the e-mail to text. When I changed that all my e-mail problems went away. Then I ran a scan and fixed a few more things with ccleaner and everything is back to normal. I always get so much help from your site and thanks you again for being here.
