Hi I just got infected with malware. After following the cleanup instructions it appears to have been removed, but i suspect that there's something fishy still going on.

For one thing, after the threats have been removed, I noticed that I am unable to disable my track pad via the laptop key. Also, my keystrokes become a bit clunkier, as if when i key something in too fast, the alphabets either go missing, or lag for half a second or so before turning up on the screen. Also, sometimes the keyboard cursor just jumps into differrent places on the text every now and again. All the above changes are subtle, but i notice it.

I am pretty sure this has not happened before the infection. Attached here are the logs. Can someone tell me if something is still amiss?

Not sure if your remaining problems are all due to malware but let's cleanup some remaining junk and see what happens.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {BFEAF3D0-307E-4F52-B64A-AF56BABE82B5} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {0953a3a2-9223-4990-a1c9-efb4d4686ef2} - C:\Program Files (x86)\PopularScreensavers_7i\bar\1.bin\7iSrcAs.dll

    O23 - Service: Application Updater - CBS Interactiv - C:\Program Files (x86)\Application Updater\ApplicationUpdater.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now uninstall the below programs:
    Java 7 Update 15
    PopularScreensavers Firefox Toolbar
    PopularScreensavers Internet Explorer Toolbar
    Search.com Toolbar v6.9

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment Make sure that when you see the form asking about installing Ask Toolbar that you uncheck this.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista, Win7, or Win8, make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi,
I followed the steps the best that i could. Here are a couple of stumbling blocks:

In uninstalling the Popular Screensavers toolbars, I got this prompt:

there was a problem starting (program directory) the specified module could not be found

JRT would install in my computer with a warning that it is not regularly downloaded, after i turned off UAC and antivirus, I ran as administrator but there was no log

in my desktop. I searched my com for the JRT.txt but it was not there

The MGtools link that you sent me was the 32 bit version, so it could not run on my system. So i used the previous version that i downloaded to obtain the logs... this

was only jus donwloaded a few day ago. Here are the MGtools and OTM logs:

PS: As I am typing this, I still feel the awkward key inputs as mentioned in my earlier post. Please advise. Much appreciated!

Please disable all protection software and try again. If that does not work then boot into safe mode and run it.

Not true. All versions of MGtools automatically support 32bit and 64bit.

As stated, probably not malware, but I want to finish getting JRT to run first anyway.

Do you know what the below new files are?
    Code:
    ----a-w 70 2013-08-12 15:15:57 C:\ProgramData\iqsngswdjelsghxsqud.bat
    ----a-w 165 2013-08-12 15:15:57 C:\ProgramData\iqsngswdjelsghxsqud.reg
    ----a-w 0 2013-08-12 15:17:11 C:\ProgramData\lcocol6z.dat
The below should get rid of the left overs from Popular Screensavers in your installed programs list.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Hi chaslang,

I have run JRT in safe mode and have obtained the logs, attached in this post

I have no idea what those entries are, but when I searched for it on my computer, it seems to have been created yesterday. I did not install anything new to my knowledge..

Also I tried to run the registry entry but was unable to do so. The following error occured:

cannot import C:\(registry path). The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

the keyboard jumps were solved by uninstalling my touchpad driver and letting it reinstall... The computer still feels sluggish at times and sometimes it freezes up..

    P.S. Thanks for your help!

Okay then delete each of them. After a reboot, make sure they are still gone.

That means you did not create the file properly. The Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 text must be the first line of the file. No blank lines above it and the Quote: text is not part of the fix. So please try again.

At this point I will repeat what I stated earlier, most likley not a malware issue.

Ok I have deleted the registry items and they dont seem to be coming back after a reboot.

I have also succesfully entered the registry fix, and the Popular Screensavers entry is gone.

Thank you for your help. Will report back if anything else occurs. Thanks for all your help, Chaslang!

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    8. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
