Just looking for information about the new Vista OS.
I have Vista Ultimate, running the 64-bit edition. I'm using Avast Antiviurs and yet to have any problems.
However, I'm using the systems default firewall. I haven't done the research and please excuse the laziness:eek: , but does any one know if this firewall is better than win xp, or do I need to get Zone Alarm?

Sadly yoru kinda limited to Vistas own firewall upto now on x64 as their are limited choices in the freeware area, ZoneAlarm is not Vista compatible as yet, Commodo will be soon. One that works but is still heavily beta is http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4480.html

Paid for ones or betas are around from

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0.2.614 works but is all round app, but the firewall only works in 64bit but only runs as 32bit )

Kerio WinRoute Firewall Beta http://www.kerio.com/beta_section.html ( Testing version only, likely to be time limited )

Norton Internet Security 2006/2007, Trends PC-Illin 2007 Internet Security and Mcafee Total Protection are Vista capable but I never looked into if they were x64 compatible as I woudl never be using them.

I tend to agree to the later of your post, my rantings about two of those programs got me into trouble with this site, so I will kindly keep my comments to myself.
Sad to here, 64 bit programs have been out for a few years now and yet there are few compatible programs for it, why then waste time and money if to produce a product that can't be utilized? hmmm....monetary reasons only?? Maybe, I don't know, and don't want to make accusations.
The x64 runs so much faster than 32 of coarse, just a shame to have to set and wait for other programs to catch up. Don't get me wrong, I have mostly 32 bit software running on the system and no problems, but I know it would be faster in 64.

well anyways thanks so much for your response.
