Hi All. Hey, Has anyone tried, or know of anyone that has Wal-Mart's ISP ??? I was curious if it was anything worthwhile. I have some friends that are poor(and yes, they are losers too. LOL), that would probrably use the Wal-Mart ISP, if it was halfway decent. All they would have to do is, buy 1 less crack-rock a month, and BOOM...........the're on the internet !!! I think I'll pick up a disk for it, and give it a test run. I'll report back, and let ya all know how it is.

As if Wal-Mart wasn't infringing on people's rights enough, now they have an ISP? Yikes.

I'm guessing it's actually AOL if you dig deep enough...

Please!!!!!! Just the thought of WalMart and AOL in the same sentence makes me gag! I work for WM but must I also be affiliated with AOL? Please tell me you are joking!

I dont think he joking. Once I saw Wal-Mart and AOL in the same sentence, I saw everything so clearly in past, present, and future that it never hit me before. Walmart sell Lindows, now they go further humiliating themselves by selling Wal-Mart ISP, lol.

Settle down people. LOL. There's no mention of being afilliated with AOL. It does mention that certain terms "may" be copyrights of AOL, or Microsoft. I'm guessing the mention of AOL, is due to the "instant messenger" part of the program. And hey........how come so many people are against AOL ??? I've used AOL for 3 years now, and never had a problem. Never had a problem signing on, and only got booted offline twice in three years. And I spend about 6 hours a day, every day, online. I think is has more to do with your location, as to which ISP works best for you. But I think we all have to agree on one thing.........A lot of peoples computers are poorly maintained, and messed up. And thats the main reason they have problems. I find AOL to be a pretty well oiled machine. Ok, now I'll just sit back and let you anti-AOLers throw me some verbal assaults !!! LMAO

OK, I just have one question 700 hours or unlimited, which is it?

Look closely at that pasted add.

And as for AOHELL I guess it is great until you decide to get the real internet and they keep charging your credit card. I had to order stop payment from Visa and they charged me $17.95 to do that. AOL continued to bill my card for three months after a call, an e-mail and a written letter. I never got that back either.

The real kicker! When I called Visa to stop payment, I told the lady: I am trying to cancel my AOL account. First she litarally laughed at me and then said: good luck. That has to say something.

And for those who like AOL: you will never really know what the real internet is until you switch. AOL traps you in there own little world.

    Just use Juno

That is what I used in college, only 9.95 per month, unlimited access, the only advertisements you see is when it is dialing. Can't beat it for the money

The 700 hours, is only for the first "free" month. Then once you open your wallet for the monthly rate, it's unlimited access.
The only other ISP I've tried was MSN. (Get the puke bag). That was a constant nightmare. MSN was down constantly.Often for a few days !!! But hey.........some people insist on Fords, others Chevy's, others Toyota. I say whatever works best for you.
Ok.................Standing by for more AOL bashing. LOL

I am using cable provide by attbi or comcast. I tried DSL and didnt like the speed so I stick with cable. I dont download any kind of softwares or application for cable, dont need to. I use IE6. I like my harddrive really clean, if anyone install aol on my harddrive, then I will have to format big time.
I use aim but not the software or application from www.aim.com, I use trillian which include aim, msn, yahoo, icq. Trillian installation software doesnt have any spams such as making cash, realplayer, ICQ, stuff like that. When installing trillian, it just create one folder under program file without throwing muliply different kinds of new spam surprises.
If there no cable available at my local, and 56k is only way for me to access internet, I would get local isp that I can just set up user name and password in internet set up under my window without any software or application or even cd. I remembered using aol many years ago, oh boy what a limiting world that was for me. I learned how to format harddrive right after having trouble with purging regedit, cuz aol installed alot of nasty hidden regristries. I wonder if you really do use aol and wal-mart isp or you are just bring this up for fun to see what aol-bashers here have some to say about these two ISP? :D

Another bad thing about AOL: It installs 9 different networking components. You go to the control panel then the networking and you will see 9 different things created by AOL. Stuff like Virtual Private Networking support and crap. What's worse is AOL needs all nine components installed to operate. You uninstall one of the two required dial-up adapters and it just automatically reinstalls the missing components.

Also, AOL is a resource hog and you have to use their program. I tried bypassing their program and still logging into their servers a few years ago to no avail. Probably still doesn't work.

Finally, AOL is made for the computer challenged people. It offers no advanced features or tweaking options. You can stay in their "safe" disneyland world and not have a single problem. But try to ask technical support anything and you'll get a bunch of stupid crap read from a manual.

ps. I do have to commend AOL on a few things available in the newest version.

First is the spam reporting tool. If you find spam in your e-mail, then you can press a button that will report the spam to the AOL techies.

Second is the pop-up stopper incorporated into AOL. You can easily push a button on the bottom of the window to enable or disable pop-ups on the fly.

I don't know how well either of these features work since I don't use them at all. I simply open AOL, log in, minimize AOL, the use internet Explorer.

Walmart banned stuff like shooting games, magzines, weapons or some tools, etc. Now with new walmart ISP, they will probably have control over which websites you may surf on. I dont go to walmart, never had brought a thing there. I will never be their customer and I dont care about their prices or what they have. Walmart makes my skin crawl.

ROBO !!!!!!!! Nice to meet another realist. Please accept my virtual handshake. LOL You are so right. And I think a lot of people lose sight of the fact, that many people are computer challenged. Personally......I welcome newbies. And I think if we all take a moment to think about it, you'll realize we ALL like newbies. When they call us up pleading for help. "My computer is all jammed up, I can't even get online, tech support won't answer the phone, help, I'm desperate". We stop over their house, run a disk cleanup, and a defrag. Boom.....all fixed, and we're the hero. They throw money at us, and cook us dinner, and tell us how brilliant we are !!! C'mon, it don't get any better than that !!! LOL
P.S. I think we better move this topic to the LOUNGE, before we catch hell, or all get a spanking !!!! We've kinda drifted away from the "software" topic here.

I dont meant all magzines or games. They banned magzines I forgot which, and banned "Hitman2" pc game, I think they banned GTA3, and they want to ban rifles and firearms, etc. In california, they still sell firearms for some reason relate to california law. I read it on news, I dont know that they still sell them cuz I never go there anyway.

Myself i would never even consider for a second installing AOL. I dont think i even wanted to when i was a complete newbie. Their odd proxy systems they implement and image compression and lack of control and tweaks really irritated me. I seriously dont like the way they "saferize" everything. But for newbies, i guess, its fine.... BUT if you want to have the internet the way it was supposed to be (oh dear roadrunner is about to sue me) then get a real ISP or DSL or Cable. NOT AOLbroadband tho. thats just crap. :D
